Manju Pattabhi Jois

Manju Jois the eldest son of  K. Pattabhi Jois and current lineage holder.  Manju learned the practice from his father and his teacher Krishnamacharya, beginning to teach at the age of 15.  Manju migrated to the west after accompanying his father on his first visit to the West in 1975 and since has been teaching in a style that emanates his fathers. He has made it his life mission to spread the teachings of the ancient practice in the West.  According to Manju, yoga is about freedom and liberation and teaching with emphasis on asana alone and with a rigidity of practice that has entered modern ashtanga destroys these important principles underlying it. He currently offers workshops across Europe accompanied by his daughter Sathu.

Nancy Gilgoff

Nancy was the first western women to study with K. Pattabhi Jois -  a relationship that spanned more than four decades.  As a result of her association with Jois, she was able to teach in a style and manner that came directly from him.  Nancy was very integrous to the principle ‘teach as you are taught’ which she maintained in her own teaching.  She was director of the House of Zen on Maui and travelled throughout Europe and Japan teaching teachers and practitioners until her death in 2023.

David Williams
